Network Engineer

DESCRIPTION: Design, implement, test, secure and operate the mission network at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). Network engineer working at Wallops must have advanced knowledge of Cisco routers, switching, and security. Successful candidate will provide network design, implementation support, and troubleshooting services. The Network Engineer will work closely with a Network Asset Planner and an IT Security Lead on day-to-day tasking and priorities related to engineering and sustaining engineering projects. Responsibilities:
  • Support the Network Assessment and Assurance process by providing assessment artifacts and their generation as required, be available to during assessments to field Subject Matter Expert related questions, facilitate/enhance network security, and provide asset and configuration management data collection.
  • Support engineering and sustaining engineering projects as the network engineering and IT Security representative.
  • Establish networking environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation, and defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Develop and maintain network topology, boundary diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
  • Develop and maintain the master list of ports protocols and services in use on the Ring Mesh Network to de-conflict new systems/devices being added to the Wallops range and launch operations environment.
  • Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Maximize network performance, troubleshoot network problems and outages.
  • Secure network systems by implementing security controls and establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Report network status by gathering and prioritizing information.
  • Support network related projects.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (switches, firewalls, VPN, QoS).
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Track inventory and life-cycle of network equipment, technology refresh, and software support.
  • Select and implement security tools and procedures as outlined in the system security plans.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Assist with preparing Statement of Work documents and seeking vendor input.
  • Supports acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.

Requirements:

POSITION STATUS: Full time position open to U.S. Persons only - NO EXCEPTIONS. Associate Degree combined with years of progressive experience in a related field will be considered. Aviation Systems Analysts

DESCRIPTION: Acima is seeking mid-level-to-senior Aviation Systems Analysts to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Next Generation Air Traffic Management (NextGen) System. These professionals will conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses using a combination of engineering, economic and management tools to define and create of systems design that lead up to concept demonstrations. These positions involve the following tasks: 1) conducting research, evaluations, analyses, and studies of alternative architectures in support of short and long-term program requirements; 2) developing architectural frameworks and models that support the assessment of various concepts of operations and system implementations; 3) performance of cost/benefit analyses, risk assessments, and engineering trades to establish optimal configurations and system solutions; and 4) evaluations of procedures and operations to ensure that proposed solutions result in future implementations that assuredly meet all system safety requirements. Emphasis will be placed on program management expertise to assist in formulating plans, budgets, and schedules with clear performance-based milestones. We seek professionals familiar with the following:

Research Engineer/Scientist

DESCRIPTION: Acima is supporting government efforts to develop next generation systems for managing our national airspace that ensure operational safety. As more people rely on air transportation the demand for efficient air and ground systems grows proportionally. New types of aircraft (such as drones, personal air vehicles and electric aircraft) are being introduced to the system adding complexity and a demand for new air and ground services. The solutions Acima helps to develop must be safe, cost effective, environmentally responsive, reduce the potential for delays, and provide the services the traveling public demand. Our Research Engineers access large data repositories of actual flight, weather, navigation, geographic, and airport operational data that are updated daily. The goal is to analyze air traffic management solutions that employ advanced autonomy and software and test them using analytics, machine learning methods, and simulations built upon these data. Your Responsibilities: You will work as a key member of a highly skilled collaborative research team. This requires the ability to bring forward innovative concepts and apply diverse skills to research feasibility and demonstrate results. Since these are research positions, you must be able to carefully structure your work and present results to peers and in open forums. You will be responsible for:
  • Performing research into future advanced air traffic management concepts and methods
  • Creating analytical methods to examine various advanced software and automation concepts designed to improve air traffic management capabilities
